Principals of a well-established and prominent law firm on Guam have parted ways.
Teker Civille Torres & Tang PLLC have metamorphosed into Teker Torres & Teker while other practicing attorney’s G. Patrick Civille and Joyce C. H. Tang have formed a separate practice Civille & Tang LLC.
Civille & Tang PLLC. have retained offices the former partnership occupied in the First Commercial Bank building on Herman Cortez Avenue in Hagåtña.
Lawrence J. Teker a founding partner and long-time Guam resident told the Journal “The May 31 dissolution of our old law firm was very friendly and without a doubt there were no hard feelings.”
Joyce C.H. Tang former partner and now a principal of the law office of Civille & Tang PLLC replied to the Journal request for comment. She said “I don’t normally comment on such matters but I will say that we have parted and remain steadfast friends.”
Teker came to Guam on June 29 1969 and has just completed his 35th year on Guam. He first became a prosecutor in the office of the attorney general and then joined the law firm of Trapp & Gayle in 1970. In 1982 he and Andrew Gayle formed the firm of Gayle and Teker and remained partners until 1999 when Gayle retired.
“In 2000 the old firm of Ching Civille and Tang merged with our firm and we formed a new partnership under the name of Teker Civille Torres & Tang PLLC ” Teker said. “In 1997 Andy and I along with C.C. Chen formed a partnership to build the Gayle and Teker building in Hagåtña. Together we owned the second floor and Chen owned the top and bottom floors.”
Teker said he conveyed his interest in the second floor to Chen who now owns the entire building.
“Because I had no more emotional attachment to the building and decided to move out in May Phillip Torres and my son Sam decided to join me. We set up a new firm under the name Teker Torres & Teker P.C. in the Biscoe Building on Aspinall Avenue in Hagåtña.”
Civille & Tang PLLC will specialize in corporate work civil lawsuits and construction disputes.
Teker said “We will continue to service our old clients and will continue to offer legal services in civil litigation corporate real estate probate and criminal defense.” MBJ
