Guam’s increasing appetite for Jamaican jerk is sufficient to support a second restaurant and the owners said they will expand the original Jamaican Grill at the same time.
JamaiCo Inc. which does business as Jamaican Grill will open in October on the second floor of the CarlRose Building across from the Pacific Islands Club Guam occupying the space of the former Kobe Restaurant.
Francis R. “Frank” Kenny who co-owns the restaurant with Tim M. Murphy told the Journal the partners had been looking for a second location for about three years. “Over the years we have been asked numerously when we would open outside the Chamorro Village. My partner and I decided that Tumon would be our primary market of interest. It is our belief that if you want to do business with tourists you have to go where the tourists are. Some of the reasoning behind being interested in our new site include a great location extending out towards Tumon’s main road; great access to our site down from Marine Corps Drive for our local market; and roughly 1 500 hotel rooms represented by the PIC Royal Orchid and Marriott hotels. This does not even include the hotel rooms of guests staying at the Hilton and Dai-Ichi once renovations are done. Not to mention the Sherwood Hotel if and when it ever opens up.”
