A restaurant and bar icon will soon close its doors as the building it occupies will be torn down to make way for a new development.
Marty’s Mexican Restaurant first opened its doors in April 1980 and since then has operated out of a section of the Royal Lanes building owned by Calvo Enterprises Inc. Royal Lanes bowling alley opened in more than 30 years ago.
However the Journal has learned that Calvo Enterprises is looking at a different future for the building. Leonard Calvo general manager for Calvo’s Development said he could not discuss what type of development or business would replace the old Royal Lanes building. “We are still working out the details. We are in the process of securing a partner for the redevelopment of that property and I can’t discuss the details at this point ” he said.
Phillip A. Martineau owner of Marty’s said “We‘re transferring to Tumon. I’m looking at several areas down there.” Martineau said he will make a decision after the 25th anniversary of the restaurant. “It’s almost an institution.” MBJ
