Passion Distributors LLC a primarily wholesale outlet casket business established in September 2004 aims to target the casket market with economically priced offerings.
Passion which is operating under the slogan “Saying goodbye to a loved one shouldn’t have to cost so much ” is serving funeral homes but plans to directly sell to the public are already in the beginning stages.
Deidre J. Leon Guerrero managing director for Passion Distributors and co-owner with Ann Krusee told the Journal “We plan to make available caskets urns and cremation caskets at very low prices for the public’s access along with free delivery to the funeral home of their choice.”
Guerrero said the company’s aim was to make funeral planning more affordable.
“Because we have been getting so many inquiries we are also considering to include pre-need payment options which many are investing in now. With the same concept as life insurance it would be for the benefit of their loved ones.”
Passion Distributors also holds true to the idea that when planning for a funeral it is essential for the public to be aware of the options and alternatives. The Federal Trade Commission protects consumers with a law called “The Funeral Rule.”
This law states that the consumer has a right to choose the funeral goods and services they want (with some exceptions); the funeral provider must state this right in writing on the general price list; if state or local law requires the purchase of any particular item the funeral provider must disclose it on the price list with a reference to the specific law; the funeral provider may not refuse or charge a fee to handle a casket bought elsewhere; and a funeral provider that offers cremations must make alternative containers available.
A common misbelief Guerrero stated was “that they must buy the casket from the funeral provider that will be performing their funeral services.”
Although the average casket cost is about $2 000 some can sell for as much as $10 000 depending on the type style and other factors.
For instance metal hardwood or fiber wood caskets are available in several different varieties and each is priced accordingly. Metal caskets at Passion Distributors range from 16 to 22 gauge— the thickness of the metal. Guerrero said “The heavier it is the more expensive it is.”
