SONGSONG Rota — Jesse Rojas a familiar face to everyone involved in the airline industry in the Mariana Islands died here June 7 of heart failure. He was 57.
Born Jesse Charles Angoco Rojas on May 31 1948 on Guam he attended George Washington High School and served in the U.S. Air Force including a tour in Vietnam during the war.
He began his career in the airline business as superintendent of operations for the Guam Airport Authority in the early 1980s. He later worked for Continental/Air Micronesia as operations manager and then as head of marketing and sales for commuters Pacific Island Aviation and Freedom Air.
“He was a fixture at the airport ” said Joaquin L. Flores Jr. general manager of Freedom Air where Rojas worked for about three years. “He had a very good easygoing personality; very level-headed; a real gentleman. People who know Jesse will miss him. There’s a lot around who will miss him. He was really suited for the jobs he had. He does not offend people. If he thought you were stupid he would keep it to himself.”
Rojas joined Rota Resort & Country Club in xx 2003 as directory of sales and marketing and was employed there up to the time of his death.
Deborah A. Rojas Jesse’s sister an accounting technician at Guam International Airport Authority said “My brother is such a helpful person. He was like a father figure to the rest of us ” referring to Jesse’s two sisters and two brothers.
Jesse is survived by a daughter Jessica Rojas who lives in Honolulu.
Deborah said Jesse had had two heart-bypass operations one in Honolulu and one in Manila. She said he loved bowling and golf and had many bowling trophies.
