HAGÅTÑA Guam "" The first meeting of the Guam Hospital Development Forum will be held on July 29 at 2 p.m. at the Hyatt Regency Guam.
The Guam Hospital Development Forum is a private sector-driven effort whose primary purpose is the creation of a written plan concept paper or model to support the financing and development of a new Guam Medical Center that is either privately owned or one created under a public-private Partnership structure.
Peter R. Sgro Jr. president of the International Group Inc. will chair the forum. Its senior advisers are Felix F. Ungacta orthopedic surgeon; and Lee P. Webber publisher of the Pacific Daily News. Forum members include doctors Chris Perez Larry Lizama Sied Satabaksh Vince Akimoto family practioner; John Taitano internal medicine; and Khia Rahmani; as well as Maria I. Peter R. Sgro and Maureen N. Maratita will co-chair the Medical Center Finance and Investor Relations Committee; Ruth Gurusamy will chair the Medical Center Staffing and Recruitment Committee; Miguel Bordallo and Andy Laguana will co-chair the Medical Center Location and Physical Facilities Committee; Lina Leon Guerrero will chair the Medical Center Ownership / Management Structure Committee; and David Silva and Frank Campillo will co-chair the Health Malpractice and Captive Insurance Committee.
The forum will address recruiting issues insurance issues financing issues quality of care issues ownership and management structures and ways by which the Guam Memorial Hospital and a new hospital can co-exist. The forum will likewise encourage for profit or non-profit investors with hospital development and management expertise to consider Guam as a place of investment for the development of a new hospital facility.
