On Oct. 14 the Commonwealth Health Center Volunteers hosted a fundraiser dinner at the Saipan World Resort which raised about $25 000. The fundraiser was part of ongoing efforts to raise $400 000 for a hyperbaric chamber and a multi-slice CT scanner. About $330 000 was raised so far.
DFS Galleria and Ernst & Young LLP hosted the 3rd Annual DFS/Ernst & Young 5K Run for Tourism education. The event raised more than $15 000. Proceeds from the event went to the Tourism Education Council — a non-profit organization.
On Oct. 14 the Rotary Club of Guam Sunrise awarded the first $500 Films For Youth Scholarship to Daniel Sanchez a student at John F. Kennedy High School. Sanchez was awarded the scholarship based on his grade point average a written essay and participation in two local film productions.

Bonita Dydasco a candidate for the “Little Miss Guam Island Fair” who was sponsored by the Guam Visitors Bureau donated $1 000 from her proceeds to Erica’s House on Oct. 20.
On Oct. 16 Atkins Kroll Inc. presented a check for $500 to the Tourism Education Council. The donation will be used for the council’s upcoming wine tasting fundraiser on Oct. 26 at the ITC building.
On Oct. 14 the Make-A-Wish granted its 141st wish to nine-year-old Shawn Perez. Shawn’s wish was for an Xbox 360. In addition to the Xbox 360 Shawn was also presented with games and accessories and a PSP. Shawn’s wish was sponsored by Great National Insurance Underwriters. A luncheon sponsored by Mama Tita’s Pizza Padrino’s and Cold Stone Creamery was also held in his honor.
