KOROR Palau – Hertz Rent-A-Car was due to open in Palau on Aug. 15 beginning with an outlet at Palau Pacific Resort.
Peter Gayman general manager of NECO Plaza Corp. will manage the new company.
Hertz took delivery of eight vehicles Aug. 6. "The eight cars are the initial delivery " he told the Journal. He said that he anticipates a fleet of 20 vehicles. The first batch of vehicles included seven Kias and one Honda. "We’re not going to spread the type of cars too wide – maybe Mitsubishi – because of parts and maintenance."
He said the addition of Hertz to the Palau car rental market is in response to demand. "A lot of times there is a shortage of cars. There was a conference of auditors in Palau; the military recruiters came in also and there were no cars available."
With a head office in NECO Plaza in downtown Koror Hertz will also open at Palau International Airport Gayman said. At the airport he said "There is one booth empty which we’re working on between the security booth and NECO Marine/Dolphins Pacific.
"There will be three locations. For people out of Guam they will be able to make bookings there or do it on the Internet." Hertz also operates in the Northern Mariana Islands.
The franchise will add jobs at NECO Plaza where Gayman oversees about 35 employees. "Three jobs for sure; maybe more " he said.
NECO Plaza offerings include a Shell gas station a tire shop a beauty shop and the recently expanded Payless Market.
