PALIKIR Pohnpei – President Emanuel Mori on July 19 submitted a loan package for Pohnpei State for $17.1 million for the upgrade of the Pohnpei Seaport facilities in Dekehtik said a release from the FSM government on July 25. The proposal aims at accessing a $16.4 million concessional loan from the Asian Development Bank with $700 000 to be sourced by Pohnpei state.
According to the release the loan will fund the lengthening of the current 328-meter seaport by another 173 meters to ease congestion and create capacity to accommodate more commercial ships. There will be a new passenger terminal transport interchange and a port control room. Additional navigation aids separate access for cargo handling as well as access for persons with disabilities will also be put in place.
