Pho Saigon, a Vietnamese restaurant, opened in the food court in the Dededo Mall on Nov. 27.

Owner Hiep Nguyen has had previous restaurant ventures as well, including Pho Saigon 2 in Harmon Loop, which closed in May 2019.

Nguyen said she moved her business because she closed her Harmon location in early 2019 and went to the United States for an extended time. When she came back, she wanted to return to working, so Nguyen and her sister decided to open the Dededo Mall location.

“We’re very old,” Nguyen said, “and want a smaller business. I don’t need a big space, that’s too much work. I loved the big space in Harmon, but I cannot stand up for a long time. It got too much, and that’s why I [closed] that store.”

According to Journal files, the Harmon location was closed in late December 2018 after an inspection prompted by a picture of the restaurant thawing chicken in an outdoor sink that went viral on social media. The restaurant reopened after a Jan. 8 re-inspection.

Nguyen said the new location has been slow, but Pho Saigon is “still getting used to the location, and the customers in the new year.”

She said after 35 years of working seven days a week, she needed to slow down. mbj
