The construction of the Don Quijoto shopping center has been put on hold.

Pan Pacific Retail Management Guam Co. Ltd. started on the development of a Don Quijote shopping center at the intersection of Airport Road and Marine Drive with a groundbreaking on Feb. 10.

However, the project, which was scheduled to be completed by Sumitomo Mitsui Construction Co. in September 2021, has halted.

Kyoko Hashimoto, from the public relations division of Pan Pacific International Holdings Co., Ltd. told the Journal on June 30, “There [have] been delays on construction. Opening date may be later than the initial plans. I’m afraid we are not ready to provide a specific date.”

No reason for the delay was given.

When construction for the store began, there was palpable excitement from the community. Don Quijote said at the groundbreaking that its prime sales demographic would be the local market.

The 1,000,000 square feet lot is located at one of the busiest intersections on the island, making it a prime spot. mbj
