One of Guam’s coffee chains will be re-opening a popular restaurant location in its chain.

Archway Inc. does business as Infusion Coffee & Tea, I Love Guam, and The Beverage Source. It has experienced setbacks due to COVID-19, but is slowly getting back on track.

Of the 11 Infusion stores on the island, nine are currently open.

The T-Galleria by DFS Guam location is closed until further notice, as is the store itself. The upper Tumon store will re-open within a week of July 27.

“We had to do a slight renovation. Because of COVID-19, it’s a good time to do it, changing the seats and that kind of stuff to make it look a little different,” said Richard Chan, president of Archway Inc.

He said his group has suffered without the visitor industry.

“I Love Guam is almost down to zero — basically because there’s no tourists and The Beverage Source maybe about 60% to 70%. It’s just slowly coming back up because restaurants are opening up again, so we’re seeing a slight increase.”

The most difficult challenge that Archway Inc. has faced, Chan said, is “to let go of employees because we don’t have enough work for them. We had to let go or decrease the hours of about 60% of the employees in the office,” he said, with hours reduced by 30% to 40%.

Despite these challenges, Chan said, “We adjust [depending] on the situation. When things get better, they get more hours. Slowly we’re increasing as we see fit.” mbj
