Absolon “Vic” Leon Guerrero Waki was perhaps unique in that he forged two significant career paths during his life — firstly in the automobile industry in the islands and then latterly in insurance.
Waki had worked for Atkins Kroll (Guam) Ltd. and its Microl Corp in Saipan from 1957 to 1982.
In January 1983, he joined Nanbo Insurance Underwriters Inc. as assistant general manager and was later promoted to various positions within the company on his path to general manager.
In May 2017, Waki joined affiliate Guahan Insurance Services as general manager.
After 36 years of service to Nanbo Waki retired on Dec. 31, 2018. A retirement party was held for him on Jan. 4, 2019 (See photo courtesy of Nanbo Insurance and Guahan Insurance Services).
Peter P. “Sonny” Ada, chairman of Nanbo expressed his condolences and said, “Vic Waki was a trusted and dedicated insurance professional. No words can express our gratitude for the opportunity to work with him.”
