UK Carrier group has COVID aboard new ship and heads for Guam

In other military news, Gen. Jeremy T. Sloane, commander of the 36^th Wing at Andersen Air Force Base, confirmed that the HMS Queen Elizabeth, the U.K aircraft carrier that is on its maiden voyage has COVID cases aboard the ship – despite staff being fully vaccinated, as reported by the BBC, which said there are about100 cases onboard.

At an Aug. 1 virtual news conference hosted at Andersen, Sloane said the vessel should be in port within “a couple of weeks.”

As far as safety, he said, “This is not the first time we’ve done something like this,” referring to the USS Theodore Roosevelt. Sloane said the numbers were small by comparison and the U.S military has plans to keep personnel isolated.

According to information published by the British Ministry of Defense on July 27, ships from the UK’s Carrier Strike Group, led by the Queen Elizabeth, performed a naval exercise with the Republic of Singapore Navy on July 26. mbj
