Docomo Pacific is now offering 5 Gig Symmetrical Fiber Internet to homes and businesses in Guam and the Northern Mariana Islands.
On Nov. 15, the company announced they are offering fiber internet speeds of up to 5G for both download and upload, touting it as “the fastest and most versatile speeds capable of empowering every resident in the Marianas.”
Docomo and other providers and industry leaders around the world are pushing technology to provide quicker internet speeds to meet the increasing demand. The federal government has called the internet a modern-day necessity as it has become a critical point of connection for education, work, healthcare and more.
This new technology being offered provides symmetrical or equal upload and download speeds using fifth-generation wireless technology, which is the latest standard for mobile telecommunications networks. According to Cisco, 5G technology has a theoretical peak speed of 20 Gbps, while the peak speed of its predecessor, 4G, is 1 Gbps. 5G also promises lower latency, which can improve the performance of business applications as well as other online experiences such as gaming, videoconferencing and even self-driving cars.
In 2019, Docomo introduced mobile 5G services in Guam and the NMI. Shortly afterward, in 2021, Sony Corporation and NTT Docomo, Inc. jointly conducted a trial of Sony's conceptual driverless vehicle on Guam. It was the first pilot of 5G technology in a vehicle in the region.

“As we developed this product, we had our customer’s satisfaction in mind. To prioritize quality, we ensured that each team contributing to this effort took the time to perfect our product before bringing it to you. This is not just about speed but delivering transformative technology that simplifies lives and opens new possibilities—from smart homes and telemedicine to thriving businesses on the global stage,” said Christine Baleto, president and CEO of Docomo Pacific.
Residential and business customers in serviceable areas can experience these new symmetrical Fiber Internet speeds under the following plans:
