Guam Navy under lockdown

At about 1:30 p.m. Naval Base Guam advised all personnel to shelter in place, according to a Facebook post on its page. (See update on: https://mbjguam.com/nbg-lifts-lockdown)

Just after 2 p.m. NBG confirmed the situation is as yet unchanged.

“A Shelter in Place remains in effect for all personnel and residents on U.S. Naval Base Guam (NBG). Remain indoors until further instructions are received,” the latest post said.

“At approximately 12:15 p.m., a bomb threat was made to facilities located onboard the installation. Security Forces, emergency responders, and Navy Explosive Ordnance Disposal Mobile units are on scene.

“NBG Main Base gates remain closed, and visitors are to remain clear of all NBG facilities. Outbound traffic is open,” the post said.

According to Journal sources phone calls were made regarding the bomb threat to multiple Navy Installations, including Naval Base Guam, Naval Hospital Guam and the Coast Guard in Guam.

The Journal confirmed bomb threats were indeed made.

The Theodore Roosevelt Carrier Strike Group happened to be in port today, Sept. 25 for a scheduled call “to bring on stores and equipment,” according to a separate release.

The lockdown is not connected in any way with a recent missile launch, sources said. mbj
