Missile flight test, potential sharing of Navy fuel line top CMCC talks

An upcoming Missile Defense Agency flight test, the potential shared use of Navy fuel pipeline with the A.B. Won Pat International Airport, and the Department of Defense’s Guam Master Plan, which will outline the future use of military lands in Guam, are a few of the things that topped the agenda at the Civil-Military Coordination Council held June 18.

Gov. Lourdes A. Leon Guerrero, Rear Adm. Greg Huffman, commander, Joint Task Force-Micronesia (JTF-M), and Rear Adm. Brent DeVore, commander, Joint Region Marianas (JRM), led the CMCC, which was held at the Ricardo J. Bordallo Complex in Adelup.

The CMCC was established in 2010 to foster collaboration among the DoD, local government, and federal agencies to share information, discuss, and when warranted provide recommendations to address military activity and growth with the goal of minimizing negative stressors to community infrastructure and services. The CMCC was originally focused on the U.S. Marine Corps relocation to Guam but has broadened its scope of information sharing and monitoring to include all military activities on Guam.

Government of Guam agencies, including the Guam Department of Public Works, Department of Land Management, Guam Environmental Protection Agency, Guam
International Airport Authority, Port Authority of Guam, Guam Department of Labor, Guam Housing and Urban Renewal Authority attended.

Officials expressed their appreciation for the partnership.

"The CMCC remains a crucial platform for maintaining ongoing discussions and cooperation with our military partners," Leon Guerrero said. "Our focus remains on finding a balance between adapting to the changing circumstances and safeguarding our people and assets, all while upholding the nation's defense capabilities."

"We're very appreciative of the partnerships forged and built over time through this council, and the continued progress we've made for the mutual benefit of our military mission and local community," Huffman said. "The increased tempo of these meetings is representative of our commitment to
close coordination with the Government of Guam."

This was DeVore’s first meeting with the council. He took command of JRM on June 4.

"As your regional installations commander, it's a priority of mine to ensure cohesion with our local support services, so that the resiliency of our military bases also translates to the resiliency of the greater community," he said. mbj
